Dr Kamal Hossain said a solution is possible in accordance with the constitution
Addressing the ruling party Awami League’s determination in not wanting to breach the constitution to fulfill the seven-point demand made by Jatiya Oikya Front, its leader Dr Kamal Hossain said a solution is possible in accordance with the constitution.
He made the comment on Friday, while talking to reporters at a program held to commemorate the Jail Killing Day.The program was held at 4pm at the Gono Forum party officein Dhaka, with its General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu in chair.
Gono Forum President Dr Kamal, who is one of the architects of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh,said at the event:“If we sit together united and open minded and hold discussions focusing on the goals of our constitution, anything can be possible.
“When it is a matter of national interest and the interest of people, the interest of one person, or group or family is not important.”
The Oikya Front chief added:“Getting all demands fulfilled from a single dialogue was not rational,as it is a continuous process. If necessary, we will hold talks again.”
Discussing the historic Jail Killing Day, he said:“The killings were also an attack on the unity of the countrymen,and the objective of such attack was to bring the country back to pre-liberation era.
“In the last 47 years of liberation, we have faced many attacks.But when strength is generated through national unity, such attacks cannot defeat us. The perpetrators of the jail killing were definitely the enemies of independence.”
He continued: “By killing our leaders, they thought the country will not be able stand on its own. But we have proved such thinking wrong.”
Dr Kamal said the upcoming three years are very important as the country will celebrate the golden jubilee of its independence, adding that Bangladesh must be free of corruption and discrimination.
“The country has progressed a lot, and it is undeniable. But, this is the result of people’s hard work. The people are the owners of this country. As the owners, they should enjoy the fruits of their labour,” he said at the program.
The Gono Forum president then pointed out that the Oikya Front is platform aiming to establish people’s right, democracy, development and even distribution of wealth.
He also urged the people to come under the umbrella of the Oikya Front.
Gono Forum Executive President Subrata Chowdhury,Mokabbir Khan, Jaglul Haider Afrik, AHM Shafiq Ullah, Mushtaq Ahmed, Rafiqul Islam Pathik, Selim Akber, Prof Bilkis Banu and Farida Yasminwere present at the program among others.
