‘Ershad is healthy, doesn’t require treatment in Singapore’

Party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader made the statement while speaking to journalists at a press briefing at the party chairman’s Banani office on Wednesday morning

Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad is healthy and does not need to be taken to Singapore for treatment, party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader has said.

He made the statement while speaking to journalists at a press briefing at the party chairman’s Banani office on Wednesday morning.

Ruhul said the former president is undergoing regular treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), and will return home in a day or two.

In reply to a query, he said: “A nefarious group is playing a wicked game against Jatiya Party by spreading rumors about the party misusing nomination papers as a business.”

Dismissing the allegations as false, Ruhul Amin said: “Ours is a major party, so everyone will not get nominations. Moreover, we have to consider the Grand Alliance, so many people feel dejected, and have thus raising false allegations against us. 

“Only those have the ability to win will be nominated from the party. Thus far, 220 candidates have been sent nomination letters by Jatiya Party.”

He said: “We have discussed the matter of nominations with the Awami League-led Grand Alliance. The alliance’s final nomination list will be published on December 9, when the last date for nomination withdrawal is upon us.”

The Jatiya Party veteran also said: “The lists that various news outlets have published of our nominated members is misleading.”

Jatiya Party presidium member SM Faisal Chishty, Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, and other Jatiya Party leaders were also present at the briefing.
