BNP leaders and activists have formed a human chain in Dhaka, protesting the start of the maiden session of the 11th parliament.
Party leaders and followers formed the human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club, around 10:30am, on Wednesday, reports UNB.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and other party senior leaders, are scheduled to address the program.
The leaders and activists are chanting slogans demanding a fresh election and the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
Meanwhile, members of law enforcement are deployed around the Jatiya Press Club to fend off trouble.
Previously, on Tuesday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the protest at a press conference held at BNP's Naya Paltan central office.
The maiden session of the 11th parliament will begin at 3pm.
Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, formed the government for the third consecutive term following its landslide victory in the general election held on December 30, 2018.
Rejecting the election results, alleging it was a “massive vote robbery,” BNP demanded the election be held again.
Eight MPs of the party and its alliance partner Gono Forum, that were elected in the parliamentary election, have yet to take their oaths.
