An order, signed by Ershad, was issued by Jatiya Party in this regard on Thursday night
Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad has reinstated his brother GM Quader as the party co-chairman.
An order, signed by Ershad, was issued by Jatiya Party in this regard on Thursday night.
As per section 20(1) Ka of the party’s charter, Ershad appointed GM Quader effective from Thursday, Ershad said in a statement.
The move comes a week after Jatiya Party members and leaders in eight districts of Rangpur division threatened to quit the party unless GM Quader was reinstated as party co-chairman and deputy leader of the opposition in the parliament.
GM Quader, also the party presidium member, was made party co-chairman in 2016.
Later in January, Ershad-- who frequently travels abroad for medical treatment-- announced that GM Quader would be the acting chairman in his absence.
Earlier, Ershad nominated his wife Raushan Ershad for deputy leader of the opposition, removing GM Quader from the post on March 23 this year.
Ershad, also leader of the opposition, in another statement issued on the same day, said he removed Quader from the parliamentary post as per section 20/1/Ka of the party charter.
The section stipulates that the JaPa chairman can make any party decision on his own.
