Andaleeve Rahman Partho led Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) have announced that they leave BNP-led 20-party alliance.
In a press release issued Monday night, the BJP chairman said his party has ceased all political association with 20-party alliance over BNP MPs joining the parliament.
Partho told Dhaka Tribune: “Over the past six months, BNP has been engaging in politics of appeasement. First they first rejected the national elections, then their MPs go to the parliament to be sworn in. They have lost all credibility.
“The BJP will now focus on developing itself right now. We are no longer affiliated with the 20-party alliance.”
BJP was an active member of the BNP-led four-party alliance since 1999, and then with 20-party alliances, but the political activity of the alliance became stagnant after the Jatiya Oikya Front was formed, reads the statement.
Partho claimed opposition politics was monopolized by the Oikya Front before the December 30 polls, and afterwards no other party from the 20-party alliance except for BNP was involved in making any important political decisions.

The statement further read that the meetings of 20-party alliance were called only for solidarity and concurrences.
Partho said the BNP and Oikya Front had lost their moral right to reject the December 30 elections by having their MPs in the parliament.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP chairperson's press wing, said they were not notified until BJP issued the statement.
In October 2018, a faction of the Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP) and National Democratic Party (NDP) left the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
