The instruction came from the ruling party’s central committee meeting on Tuesday, held at its president’s political office at Dhanmondi

The Awami League has instructed all its affiliated organizations to form committee’s without delay.

The instruction came from the ruling party’s central committee meeting on Tuesday, held at its president’s political office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.

The party’s acting general secretary, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, told all leaders of its affiliated organizations to complete forming all central and unit committees without delay, as the deadline has already passed.

Hanif further said that the next national conference of Awami League will be held within the stipulated time later this year.

All the organizations affiliated with Awami League have to form respective committees according to their stipulated dates when they were constituted.

He said: “We are hopeful that we will be able to form our national council by completing all committees and councils at grassroots level. Awami League’s national council will be held in October.”

All grassroots, district and upazila units of Awami League were asked to complete their councils to strengthen the party’s organizational structure and boost party activities.

The party has formed eight teams for eight organizational divisions, and they have already started their tours to finish council-related work, said Hanif.

The senior Awami League leader also said that the affiliated organizations have been instructed to complete their councils, and take preparation for the national council.

Awami League to celebrate Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day

Ruling Awami League has chalked out several programs to mark the homecoming day of its president, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Sheikh Hasina returned home on May 17, 1981, six years after the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members were assassinated on August 15, 1975.

Hanif said that the party will arrange a discussion meeting and an art exhibition at the Engineers Institute in the city on May 17.

“All units of Awami League and affiliated organizations have been asked to organize programs across the country from May 17 to 31, marking Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day,” said

Digital database

The Awami League had taken an initiative to prepare a digital database of party leaders and activists after coming to power in 2014, but the project did not see the light of day.

After the party returned to power for the third consecutive term, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, an advisor to the government on  information and communication technology, has taken the initiative again to make the digital database, said Hanif.

He said: “Sajeeb Wazed Joy will sit with the office secretaries of all upazila units to discuss the matter.”

He also said that all Awami League units have been asked to send information about their leaders that would be saved digitally on a server.

Chhatra League clash over committee a trifling matter

Mahabubul Alam Hanif, who is also joint general secretary of Awami League, described Monday’s clashes between two groups of Chhatra League over the formation of a new committee as a “trifling matter”.

He said: “Chhatra League is a big organization and there are thousands of qualified leaders who are eligible to be central leaders, but we cannot give positions to all of them. They have expressed their frustration as they did not get their desired posts in the committee. It is a trifling matter and the problem will be solved soon.”

Chhatra League activists started protesting on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Monday following the announcement of its 29th full central committee.

During the protests, different factions of the party's student front were seen scuffling with each other, leaving around 15 people injured.
