Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain has said fresh polls need to be held to end people’s suffering and re-establish democracy.
He stated this at a press conference held at the National Press Club, in Dhaka, on Wednesday morning. He spoke about the recent plight of farmers.
Farmers across Bangladesh are protesting in demand of fair piece for paddies.
“The farmers are suffering so much because of this government. The failure of the government will be revealed to all.
“Re-establish democracy and hold fresh polls as soon as possible. We need free and fair elections,” Dr Kamal said.

He urged the people of Bangladesh to be united and seek an “accountable government.”
Gono Forum General Secretary Dr Reza Kibria said the government is not sympathetic toward the farmers.
“They [the government] help loan defaulters and share manipulators. But when it comes to the hardworking farmers they are completely silent,” he added.
Executive President Prof Abu Sayeed said: “This government is detached from the people. The people of Bangladesh have no faith in them.”
Several other members of Gono Forum attended the event.
