Following his expulsion from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on February 15—for demanding organizational reforms—former Islami Chhatra Shibir president Mojibur Rahman Monju has decided to form his own party.

Monju was a member of the party's Dhaka metropolitan unit policymaking body, the Majlis-e-Shura.

Born in Feni, he went to the Kuliara High School in Chittagong. He joined Khelaghor—a children's organization of Jamaat-e-Islami—while studying in second grade, resulting in active engagement in the party from childhood.

A family of Awami League activists

Monju comes from a family of political activists, most of whom were members of the ruling Awami League—the arch nemesis of Jamaat-e-Islami.

His father was a freedom fighter, who had been injured in 1971 Liberation War of 1971. Two years later, he died as he did not receive proper treatment.

All of Monju's seven brothers and sisters are also involved in politics. His elder sister was a member of a district committee of Awami League and her husband was a vice president of the district committee.

Another sister was an upazila Awami league committee vice chairman’s wife, and also a member of the party herself. Monju's elder brother is a Jatiya Party district leader, while his younger brother is a member of Chhatra League—Awami League's student wing.

Moreover, all four of his sisters are married to freedom fighters.

Education and early political career

Upon completing his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam from MES High School in Chittagong, Monju joined Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir in 1988.

From 1990–91, he served as president of the Chittagong Polytechnic Institute chapter of Shibir. Later, from 1993–94, he served as central secretary of Chittagong College Chhatra Shibir.

While studying political science at Chittagong University in 1998, he joined the Chittagong chapter of Chhatra Shibir as president.

In 2004, Monju joined Jamaat-e-Islami in Dhaka. He became a Dhaka city Shura member in 2006, and in 2007, a Dhaka metropolitan unit Majlis-e-Shura member.

Fall from grace

After eight years in the position of central Majlis-e-Shura member, Monju left mainstream politics and began working in the party's cultural and   intellectual programs.

Before his expulsion from Jamaat-e-Islami, he did not hold any central position inside the party for almost seven years.

In 2008, he joined as a Deputy Executive Director at Diganta Television—a position he still holds despite the channel being off air now. He is also a member of both the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and National Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Furthermore, Monju is a businessman, involved primarily in the pharmaceutical sector
