Rizvi claims there is a serious resentment in public mind following the signing of ‘anti-state’ documents with India by the Prime Minister

BNP has demanded that the prime minister immediately step down for signing “anti-state” agreements with India, ignoring the national interest.

The party also demanded the scrapping of all the deals that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina signed with India on Saturday.

BNP’s senior joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi voiced the demands while speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Sunday.

“We strongly condemn and protest the anti-state deals, including the withdrawal of water from the Feni River by India. We demand immediate cancellation of those documents,” he said.

Rizvi said Sheikh Hasina has lost the constitutional right to remain in the post of prime minister by signing the documents with India, as she only protected the interests of the neighboring country.

The BNP leader further said. “We want to say that the signing of anti-state agreements allowing India to use Chittagong and Mongla ports, withdrawing water from the Feni River, and import bulk LPG from Bangladesh for its north-eastern states are clearly a violation of the Constitution. It is tantamount to treason.”

On Saturday, Bangladesh and India signed seven bilateral documents after a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

Rizvi claimed there has been serious resentment among the public following the signing of the “anti-state” documents with India by the prime minister.

About the arrest of Jubo League’s Dhaka South unit president Ismail Hossain Samrat for his alleged involvement in the casino business, the BNP leader claimed it was a drama staged to divert people’s attention from the deals with India.
