Menon will be asked to explain his statement, he says
Awami League presidium member Mohammed Nasim has said the 14-party Alliance is not embarrassed by the statement made by alliance member Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon.
“Why would the alliance be embarrassed regarding the statement of a person? This is an ideological alliance based on the spirit of the Liberation War, communalism, democratic values,” Nasim, also the spokesperson of the 14-party Alliance, said on Tuesday.
“However, Menon will be asked to explain his statement at the alliance’s next meeting. The issue will be discussed at the meeting and then next step will be decided,” he added.
On October 19, speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of the district unit conference of his party in Barisal, Menon said people could not cast their votes in the election (held on December 30, 2018) though he had also been elected in the same polls.
He went on to say that the people of Bangladesh could not even cast their votes in the Union Parishad and Upazila Parishad elections.
Later, in a press release on Sunday, Menon, also a former minister in a previous Awami League-led government, said the 11th Parliamentary Election was held successfully, but the experiences were not good.
