Atiqul Islam, mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), has resigned from his post to contest in the Dhaka city elections set to be held on January 30, 2020.
His resignation letter was sent to the Local Government Division around 4pm on Monday.
Monday was his last office as DNCC mayor.
Ruling Awami League on Sunday picked Atiqul to contest again for the DNCC mayoral post.
Atiqul has been serving as mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) since February this year, after he was backed by Awami League to contest in the by-elections of DNCC in 2018.
The mayoral post fell vacant after the then DNCC mayor Annisul Huq passed away November 30, 2017.
