Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) following breathing problems.

He was admitted to the hospital on Friday morning, said Awami League office Secretary Biplob Barua.

"Obaidul Quader's condition is stable now, he is out of danger now," said Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak in front of BSMMU.

A board of doctors are observing Quader's condition, he added.

Sources inside the party said Quader came to join an adjourned meeting of Awami League secretariat level at Dhanmondi office of Awami League chief. He felt sick there and was rushed to BSMMU.

Jahangir Kabir Nanak also called upon Awami League leaders and activists to not to gather in BSMMU compound and concentrate on the Dhaka city corporation elections scheduled to be held on Saturday.

If activists gather at BSMMU it will affect other patients, the joint general secretary added.

Barrister Biplab Barua, special assistant to Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and also the office secretary of Awami League, told Dhaka Tribune: “Quader is stable now. He needs rest. Doctor’s are observing his health condition.”

He added that the prime minister is also monitoring Quader’s condition.
