Awami League hails pro-people, challenging budget for FY21 amid Covid-19 pandemic

Obaidul Quader will officially brief on the budget on Friday morning

The budget for 2020-21 fiscal year has been a pro-people one, according to the Awami League (AL) leaders.

The leaders also thanked and expressed their gratitude towards the party chief, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for delivering such a challenging budget amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

The ruling party leaders told these to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday afternoon.

Abdur Rahman, a presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League, said this was a very timely, productive, pro-people and benevolent budget. He congratulated and thanked the prime minister for this budget.

According to Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, this budget was a very challenging one as the whole world is now fighting against the coronavirus.

“Due to the Covid-19 attack, most of the countries’ economy has come to a halt. In between this, announcing the budget for a fiscal year is a very challenging work to do,” said Hanif.

“Government aims to keep the estimated GDP growth of our country constant amid this coronavirus pandemic,” he added.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury also commented that the budget was a pro-people and visionary one.

“As a whole the budget focuses on crisis management for the coronavirus situation, and our next generation will be benefited by this,” said Khalid

"If we can fulfil the target of this budget, Bangladesh will reach its desired goal in time," he added.

On Thursday, the Awami League office said the party General Secretary Obaidul Quader will officially brief on the budget on Friday morning.
