Party’s standing committee members visit Ziaur Rahman’s shrine
BNP standing committee members, including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, exchanged Eid greetings with party chief Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan residence “Firoza” on Wednesday night
Khaleda Zia's media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter to the media.
The BNP chairperson returned home on June 19, after a 54-day stay at a hospital with Covid-19 illness. She received the first dose of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine on Monday.
Her family appealed to the government on May 6 to take her abroad for advanced treatment, but it was turned down.
"She has greeted the people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and asked everyone to follow health rules," Mirza Fakhrul said.

He added that the party chief was feeling feverish after being vaccinated. "As per the doctors' advice, she needs to go abroad for advanced treatment."
In the afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul and senior members of the standing committee visited the shrine of party founder Ziaur Rahman after the Eid prayers.
He said: "People's lives are in danger in Bangladesh at the moment due to the government's indifference and incompetence.”
He further said: "We prayed to Allah to save us from this terrible pandemic, which has endangered mankind all over the world. May Allah forgive the people of this country and free them from this terrible pandemic.”
The BNP leader also urged the citizens to wear masks and maintain health rules.
Mirza Fakhrul said: "We are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha at a time when our party's chairperson is imprisoned despite being ill; she has sacrificed her life for democracy and for the welfare of the people of this country. Our acting chairman has been living in exile…
"Hundreds of thousands of people are being sued in false cases, and have gone missing. This is the current situation in Bangladesh."
He said that they had prayed to Allah seeking His support to establish democracy in the country.
Among others, standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and Nazrul Islam Khan were also present at the time.
