BNP's allegations against the government are baseless, says the Awami League general secretary

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said making false statements regularly has turned into the BNP's habit.

He said this at a press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence in Dhaka.

Stating that the BNP's allegations against the government are imaginary, Quader said raising new allegations against the government every day has become the BNP's daily routine.

Noting that the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina does not believe in repression and torture, the minister questioned why the government would lodge purpose-oriented cases.

The government has no interference in the country's court matters, he said.

Pointing to BNP leaders, the Awami League general secretary said if law enforcement agencies arrest anyone of the BNP at the order of a court, the BNP blames the government.

“Major offenders cannot be brought under justice, what type of demand is that?” he questioned. “In that case, does the BNP want that there should be no judiciary and law in the country?” he again questioned.

Quader said the BNP is taking stance in favour of offenders indiscriminately.

The BNP is giving statements demanding the release of those who were arrested along with arms, he said, adding that the BNP is making ill efforts to make the natural judicial process questionable.

The Awami League general secretary said the government's stance is clear that it does not believe in political repression.

About BNP leaders' comment that the behaviour of the government reveals that the country is not an independent one, rather an ill-governed state, Quader questioned: “When the BNP carried out arson terrorism and burned innocent people to death, gutted vehicles and land office by setting fire on those using gunpowder, created anarchy in the name of political program, did it not seem like an anarchical place at that period?”

During the BNP government’s tenure, the BNP itself had turned the country into a land of terrorists by killing 21,000 leaders and workers of the Awami League.

“Does it go with the political party of an independent nation to make complaints to foreigners frequently?” he questioned.

He said the BNP had itself turned the country into an anarchical state while the Awami League government is making all-out strides to establish peace and stability in the country after retrieving it from the worst condition.

Quader said the BNP had started its evil attempts to pollute the country's politics with an orchestrated plan to make the country's politics difficult for politicians.

The BNP had initiated the practice of opportunism and intrusion for gaining their evil political interests, he said.

The Awami League general secretary said: “Who can respect those who do not do pro-people politics and cannot protect their own respect?”

He said the people have no trust and confidence in the BNP and that is why the party now wants to enforce opportunism to grasp state power in the name of politics.

He said the Awami League has very strong footing as it was established from the grassroots and it knows how to respect leaders.
