Adani Group to install solar power plants in BD

A letter signed by Adani Green Energy Ltd representative Kandarp Patel was sent to the Power Division in this regard on October 30, sources told the Dhaka Tribune.

A copy of the proposal was also sent to the state minister for power, energy and mineral resources and the chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board, the sources added.

According to the proposal, Adani Green Energy Ltd requested to be included in the qualification process for the development of solar power plants with up to 320MW capacity at the locations of West Urir Char and East Charmajid, Charkhodolkar and Musapur villages in Noakhali and Devpur village in Patuakhali.

Patel, in the letter, said Adani is the largest player in India with over two gigawatts or 2,018MW of solar power portfolio in terms of commissioned and pipeline solar PV project capacity, which is the first and highest-ever achieved by any company in the Indian power sector.

“In view of the growing focus on renewable energy in India, especially solar power, we have committed to developing 10,000MW of renewable energy projects and have taken several initiatives in this area,” the letter read.

The Adani Group, among other businesses, has four flagship listed companies – Adani Enterprises Ltd, Adani Power Ltd, Adani Transmission Ltd and Adani Port and Special Economic Zones Ltd – with a combined market capitalisation in excess of $10 billion, revenue of $10.9 billion and employing over 10,000 people.

Bangladesh government aims to generate 10% or 2,000MW of the national power demand of 24,000MW from renewable sources by 2021.

Meanwhile, The Power Division will sit with Adani Group representatives tomorrow to fix the purchase rate of 1,600MW of coal-generated electricity from an Adani power plant in India's Jharkhand province.
