Fifteen Bangladeshi children have attended a Russian government-sponsored summer camp in Vladivostok, in the Russian Far East.
The fifteen Bangladeshis who participated in the “Rosatom School” International Children’s Camp, were among 126 children from eight countries. The scheme is managed by Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear energy corporation, and Rossotrudnichestvo, the Russian agency for international co-operation.
Rosatom, in a press release, stated that the camp was unique in that it encouraged participants, who speak a host of different languages to interact using verbal and non-verbal means of communication during workshops.
The release highlighted that the camp included a performance organised by the children, as well as a vaunted opportunity for the children to gain diplomatic experience. Rosatom said that the children were taught about diplomacy in a “fun” way where they were encouraged to establish “states” and interact with their fellow campers using various diplomatic approaches.
The Bangladeshi children were also introduced to Alexander Zubko, Bangladesh’s Honorary Consul in Vladivostok.
Rosatom is running five summer camps this summer, including in Finland and Indonesia. The programme at the camps as well as the nature of the organisers, have attracted skepticism from some, namely in Finland, where spaces allotted for Finnish children went largely unfilled.
