New private-funded 200MW power plant in Mymensingh
The government has approved the Power Division's proposal to set up a 200 megawatt power plant in Mymensingh which will be funded by the private sector. According to the proposal, United Enterprise and Company will construct the furnace oil-based power plant using the latest technology. The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase yesterday, presided over by Finance Minister AMA Muhith. Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam and Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, among other high officials, were present. Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division Mostafizur Rahman briefed the journalists about various aspects of the approved proposal after the meeting. He said the government will buy electricity from the power plant for 15 years and the price of electricity will be Tk8.41 per kilowatt hour. The total cost in purchasing power from the plant will stand at about Tk17,640 crore in 15 years. The proposal said the electricity will be delivered to the customers in line with the demand. United Enterprise and Company has constructed another 300MW power plant in Anwara, Chittagong.
