Production at the mine was halted on June 15 after the coal stock for the 1,210 phase ran out
Coal mining has resumed in Dinajpur’s Barapukuria after three months.
Fazlur Rahman, managing director of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company, said: “Over 500 tons of coals were extracted from 9:30pm on Friday till and 6am on Saturday.”
“We believe 2,000 to 2,200 tons will be extracted soon. Work will gradually pick up speed. If all goes well we should be able to resume commercial production soon,” he said.
Production at the mine was halted on June 15 after the coal stock for the 1,210 phase ran out. Three units of the thermal power plant with the capacity of 525MW were also closed on Jul 22 after their coal reserves ran out.
