China to continue support in infrastructure development, trade

China urged to play stronger role in Rohingya crisis

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has appraised China’s role in Bangladesh’s infrastructure development and trade.

Dr Shirin said China has been one of the development partners of Bangladesh and bilateral relations between the two nations will be further strengthened in the future.

She said this, while Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming paid a courtesy call on her at her parliament office on Wednesday.

She requested Chinese envoy to continue cooperation and provide support.

They discussed about bilateral issues as well as trade and investment in Bangladesh.

Dr Shirin also highlighted Bangladesh’s tremendous development under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Speaker also said Padma Bridge is being built with technical support of Chinese, adding, “Padma Bridge will launch a new horizon of socio-economic development of Bangladesh, which will connect southern part of the country with the capital.”

Recalling her China visit, she said Speaker of the National People’s Congress of China gave her a warm reception in Beijing. Terming the visit a fruitful, she said China has been very sincere in Bangladesh’s development. The exchange of visits within two country’s parliamentarians will add a new dimension in the future.

Ambassador Li Jiming has called Bangladesh as China’s one of the most important friendly countries. Cooperation between the two neighboring countries would continue on mutual interest, he said.

Increasing regional connectivity will bring economic prosperity to all the countries of the region. 

Dr Shirin also urged China to play a stronger role in resolving Rohingya crisis as humanitarian problem.

“China has to play a significant role to ensure safe and peaceful repatriation of Rohingya citizens to their homeland,” she said.

Ambassador Li Jiming said that China’s role in the peaceful return of the Rohingya would be further strengthened.

Officials of the China Embassy and senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present.
