Brac to implement the program under National Tuberculosis Control Programme’s supervision

The National Tuberculosis Control Programme (NTP) of the government and Brac have jointly taken an initiative to detect tuberculosis (TB) among Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar through a high-tech mobile X-ray van.

To speed up the TB control program, Brac will implement the program under the supervision of NTP, a press release said.

The inaugural ceremony for providing medical services through the mobile van was held on the Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon Office premises on Thursday.

Prof Dr Mohammad Shamiul Islam, director of Mycobacterial Disease Control (MBDC) and line director of NTP, Dr Mahbubur Rahman, Cox’s Bazar civil surgeon, Dr Mohammad Jakir Hossain Khan, superintendent (deputy director) of Cox’s Medical College Hospital, Dr Bisakha Ghosh, Chittagong divisional expert of NTP, and SM Golam Raihan, manager of Brac’s TB Control program were present at the function among others.

About 100 Rohingyas from different camps in Ukhia and Teknaf will get necessary health services free of cost daily through the van equipped with X-ray and GeneXpert.

Brac earlier took the TB detection program among the displacing Rohingyas but it launched the mobile X-ray van for the first time amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The services will be provided following the health guidelines.

Field-level Brac workers have already launched a special campaign among Rohingyas to this end.
