His swear-in ceremony took place at Bangabhaban on Sunday
Dr Shamsul Alam, an Ekushey Padak-winning economist, has been sworn in as the state minister for planning.
President Abdul Hamid administered the oath of office to the new state minister at Bangabhaban on Sunday.
Ministers for Liberation War affairs, law, home, agriculture, education, local government and planning were present at the function.
The cabinet secretary conducted the ceremony.
Dr Alam served as a member of General Economy Division (GED) at the Planning Commission since 2009, before retiring as a senior secretary.
Born on January 1, 1951 at Matlab Uttar in Chandpur, Dr Alam graduated in 1965 from the then East Pakistan Agricultural University with a degree in agricultural economics and received his post-graduate degree in 1973.
In 1983, he received a post-graduate degree in economics from Thammasat University and obtained his PhD in the same subject from Newcastle University in 1991.
He joined Bangladesh Agricultural University as a teacher in 1974 and continued teaching there until 2009.
Dr Alam received Ekushey Padak in 2020 for his contribution in the country's economy.
