
The name of a street in Binodpur of Mohammadpur upazila in Magura named after a war criminal called Chand Ali Shikdar has been removed after it was brought to public attention by the Dhaka Tribune and a number of newspapers.
A building at Binodpur Degree College named after the same also lost the label on Sunday.
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahin Hossain took the initiative to remove these names from the above mentioned places.

Earlier, the High Court (HC) had passed an order to remove the names of anyone who opposed the Liberation War of 1971 from any places or buildings that were named after them on December 6, 2016 within in a 60-days time period.
As per the order of the HC, the names of the road connecting Binodpur to Ghullia via Babukhali was removed, said UNO Shahin.
However, no actions were taken towards two more streets named Habibur Rahman Street in Magura city and Wazed Ali Khan Street in Abalpur area in Magura as of Monday.
