Sahidur Rahman, --former mayor of Tangail municipality and one of the prime accused in the sensational Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case-- has been to a court in Tangail to surrender to the law.
Sahidur was shown absconding in the case for the last six years, the court sources said.
He came to court to surrender on Monday around 9pm along with his father and Member of Parliament (MP) of Ghatail, Ataur Rahman, and his brother, former MP Amanur Rahman Khan Rana.
However, as the judge of the court was absent, he could not surrender on Monday, according to court sources.
Meanwhile, a large number of policemen were deployed at the court premises and the municipality to prevent any untoward situation in this regard.
On September 6, 2017, a Tangail court framed charges against the then Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana and 13 others on charges of killing Tangail Awami League leader Faruk, 60.
Faruk’s body was found near his College Para home in the town on January 18, 2013, hours after he was shot dead. Three days later, his wife Nahar Ahmed filed the murder case with Tangail Model Police Station accusing unidentified people of the murder.
According to the charge sheet of the case, in 2012 Faruk had expressed his readiness to contest for the post of Tangail AL general secretary.
