
Electronics brand Singer and the NGO Brac have signed a deal to train 5,000 underprivileged women in sewing across the country for free.
The organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to launch the joint project ‘Abolombon’, a press release said.
Under the 'Abolombon' program, 5,000 women below the poverty line will be receiving free tailoring training at 20 Brac locations across the country. Participants will receive all learning materials as well as accessories needed for tailoring absolutely free.
The aim of the initiative is to enable the beneficiaries to earn using tailoring skills and thus bring positive change in their livelihood, the release said.
President and CEO of Singer Asia and Chairman, Singer Bangladesh Limited Gavin J Walker and Chief Financial Officer of Brac and Brac International Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. Brac Founder and Chairperson Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, President and CEO of Singer World Corporation Stephen H Goodman, Singer Bangladesh MD and CEO MHM Fairoz and other top Officials were present.
