A two-day convention of NRB (Non-Resident Bangladeshis) engineers, CONE 2019, will begin at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on February 26. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the convention.
Economic Relations Division (ERD), a2i (Access to information in Bangladesh) and Bridge2Bangladesh will jointly organize the convention.
Planning Minister MA Mannan will preside over the inaugural session. ERD Secretary Monowar Ahmed, National Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury and Bridge2Bangladesh Chairman Ajadul Hoque will speak the convention, organizers said at a press conference held yesterday at the planning commission.
Engineers from around 30 countries of the world will participate in the conference. The conference will discuss various technical issues including development of national transport management, satellite, cyber security, Nano technology, sustainable environment development, urban planning development, tele communication, development of energy and power sector and agricultural technology, said organizers.
Engineers from countries like the US, UK, UAE, France, the Philippines, Australia, Japan, Qatar, Sweden, and Singapore, will be attending the convention. The resident ambassadors of Bangladesh posted at these countries are expected to attend the function.
Nine business sessions will be held in the two-day conference. In the sessions, NRB engineers will present their innovative project proposals. Besides, project evaluation and finalization process, PPP and current government thrust sectors will also be discussed. As a result, it is expected that a matching process will be created between demand and supply.
Organizers said that Bangladesh's economic growth has accelerated in the last 10 years, which has been above 7% in the last two years. Growth rate was 7.88% in 2018. Due to the implementation of the development plan implemented by the government, poverty alleviation, human resources development and economic fragility targets exceeded the set criteria of three indices.
The convention aims to create a professional communication between the NRB engineers and the different engineering and technical fields in the public and private sectors in Bangladesh.
