Female students from other educational institutions also participated at the event

The Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) of the Directorate of Technical Education had a day-long job fair yesterday, "Job Fair 2019," at the Dhaka Mohila Polytechnic Institute.

36 companies from various sectors took part in the fair, with approximately five thousand former students of Dhaka Mohila Polytechnic Institute, fresh graduates, and final year students there, in search of jobs.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the event, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the country can progress further if both men and women have equal employment opportunities and equal representation in the country's workforce.

“It is possible to take the country towards further progress if men and women have equal employment opportunities,” she said, inaugurating the fair.

Director General of Technical Education, Raonak Mahmud, presided over the program and Md Alamgir, secretary Technical and Madrasah Education Division, was a special guest.

Female students from other educational institutions also participated at the event.

According to organizers, around 100 job seekers will be selected through the fair. Romel D’Rozario, operations manager of PriyoShop.com said they opened their stall at 9am and received many curriculum vitae (CVs).

“We have already selected some candidates and plan to call them later. We have plans for a good number of recruitments in various sectors, including graphics, social media marketing, and call center jobs” he said, adding that any student from any department at educational institutions can apply for a job at the fair.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Md Al-Amin, representative of Pantho Neer Architecture, said: “I  think job fairs are the only events where job seekers do not need to go to employers. Rather, it is employers who come to candidates.”

Latifa Yesmin Joytee, a Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering student of Gono Bishwabidyalay, Savar, said she dropped CVs at five company stalls in search of a job in the electro medical sector.

“The job market is very competitive. I have been trying to get a job for a long time since my graduation,” she explained.
