“Bangladesh-Turkey Joint Economic Commission Meeting to be held soon and Turkey has approached positively to this end,” he said.
The minister passed the remarks after having a view exchange meeting with Turkey Ambassador to Bangladesh Devrim Ozturk at his ministry office. Terming Turkey as an important trading partner, Tofail said Turkey is keen to do free trade agreement (FTA) with Bangladesh and discussion is on in this regard.
Bangladesh has an export volume of US$720 million with Turkey in fiscal 2015 against the import of $158.90 million.
“Bilateral trade would exceed $2 billion within shot time if cooperation is intensified,” opined the commerce minister.
Referring to the long-standing relation between both the countries, Turkish Ambassador said: “Still the relation is sound and will be intact.”
Lauding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, Devrim Ozturk said Bangladesh is moving ahead with her dynamic leadership and Turkey would be beside Bangladesh to this journey.
Senior Commerce Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamoon and Additional Secretaries Manuj Kumar Roy and Munsi Safiul Huq were present at the meeting.
