Sheikh Hasina was addressing the inaugural ceremony of an International Conference titled “New Economic Thinking: Bangladesh 2030 and Beyond” organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dhaka yesterday.
PM hoped that the economy will usher in new horizon in regional and international economic relations.
She underscored the need for improving relation of mutual cooperation with neighbouring friendly countries and international arena to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Hasina also noted that her government has been working with a far-reaching goal to ameliorate its standings on various indexes like Cost of Doing Business.
Referring to the UK-based Price Water House Coopers report, she said Bangladesh would become the 29th economy of the world by 2030 and 23rd by 2050.
To achieve this goal, she said the desired employment opportunities would have to be created through sustainable economic development, industrialisation and boosting remittance.
Hasina said the government was providing “lucrative incentives” to attract foreign investment.
She said steps have taken to build 100 special economic zones to attract domestic and foreign investment.
Besides, a high-tech park on 355 acres of land is being constructed at Kaliakoir with a target to employ 1 million people in IT sector by 2021 and exporting goods of $5bn a year, she added.
