Stocks end in the black

DSEX, the key index of the premier bourse, gained 0.39% or 22 points closing at 5,605 points. DS30, the blue chip index, also advanced 0.27% or 5.5 points end at 2,026 while the DSE Shariah-based index added 4 points finishing the session at 1,313. Among the traded issues, 115 advanced, 164 declined and 51 remained unchanged. During the trading session, all the large cap sectors showed negative performance except banks, which went up 1.98% and Power 0.89%. Non-Banking Financial Institutions lost 1.05%, the highest loser of the day. Engineering sector declined by 0.27%. Food and allied and Pharmaceuticals experienced loss of 0.17% and 0.15% respectively. Telecommunication, the heavy weight stocks in terms of market capitalisation, closed flat. The single-day turnover stood at Tk1,298 crore which was 5.3% higher than the previous session’s value of Tk1,233 crore. Posting a slight gain, Baraka Power Limited was the highest traded share with a turnover of Tk44.66 crore. Trading at the both stock markets - Dhaka and Chittagong - will remain closed today marking the Shaheed Dibosh (Martyrs’ Day) and the International Language Day.
