
Proposals to acquire lands for two economic zones in Narayanganj and Chittagong will be placed at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council meeting on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority will place the proposals, which involve a total of Tk761.78 crore, for Ecnec approval.
The economic zones include one for Japanese investors in Araihazar in Narayan and another in Mirsarai in Chittagong.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the Ecnec meeting.
“We want to develop the Araihazar economic zone with a business-friendly environment for Japanese investors,” BEZA official said.
Japanese investors will invest in Bangladesh under Japan government initiative titled “Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt” or BIG-B, officials said.
A couple of months ago, Ecnec approved the proposed Chinese Economic and Industrial Zones for developing the economic zones on a 774.25-acre land at Anwara in Chittagong. The project, which is exclusively for Chinese investors, involves Tk420.37 crore.
