As per a BPC proposal, the fuel oil will be bought from Indonesian company PT Bumi Siak Pusako Zapin at a cost of Tk72.43 crore.
The proposal, signed by Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Nazimuddin Chowdhury, is likely to be placed at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase tomorrow.
Bangladesh Eastern Refinery will be out of operation for one and a half months for renovation.
Now country has 13 days of octane reserve although the National Energy Policy is for keeping 60 days reserve. BPC said if octane is not imported during the renovation, the country will face fuel crisis.
According to the BPC, Bangladesh has an annual estimated demand of octane is 1,65,000 tonne with monthly demand 13,560 tonne and a projected daily demand 452 tonne.
It said the demand has in recent time increased by 2,730 tonne. The state-run Eastern Refinery produces 25,000 tonne of octane.
but ERL is now out of operation so there may a crisis of octane in the country if the government is not imported octane in due time, proposal said.
Proposal said a premium of the imported of Octane is $4.55 per barrel with a cost of Tk72.43 crore for import of 15,000 MT.
