FBCCI polls to see 77 contestants

Seventy-seven business leaders have submitted their nomination papers to contest the upcoming election of the country’s top trade body FBBCI. The number of directors has increased to 60 this year from 52. FBCCI Election Board received nomination papers both from the Associations Group and the Chambers Group as the deadline for submission of nomination papers expired on Monday Of them, 18 from each group will be elected as directors through voting on May 14 for the 2017-19 term. Meanwhile, 12 selected trade associations and 12 selected chambers nominated their representatives directly to become directors of the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry. They have also submitted their nomination papers. The remaining 36 directors will be elected from chamber and association categories by direct voting. The number of voters is 2,342. The 60 elected and nominated directors will choose FBCCI president, first vice-president and vice president through an election to be held on May 16. The scrutiny of the nomination papers would continue until April 29, while the final list of eligible candidates will be published on April 30.
