The government is likely to appoint acting commerce secretary Shubhashish Bose as the new chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) soon.
NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman will be reasigned as Officer on Special Duty after announcement of national budget for fiscal year 2017-18, Commerce Ministry sources confirmed on Wednesday.
Although the government is yet to issue any official circular, sources confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune that the NBR chairman will be sent to OSD on June 4, two days after the announcement of the budget.
In a sudden development on Wednesday morning, Finance Minister AMA Muhith called the acting commerce secretary Shubhashish Bose over phone and asked him to attend every single budget meeting to be held from now on.
The acting commerce secretary was also asked to meet with the minister on Thursday.
Nojibur Rahman was appointed as the NBR chairman, also secretary of the Internal Resources Division on January 11, 2015.
A 1982 BCS cadre, Nojibur Rahman earlier served as secretary of the Statistics and Informatics Division and the environment secretary.
He also served as the economic minister at Bangladesh's UN Mission.
