AKM Shajahan Kamal, the new civil aviation minister, says he has taken up the challenge of turning the loss-making national flag carrier into a profitable institution.
He visited the ministry on Thursday morning, a day after replacing Rashed Khan Menon.
“After I was sworn-in, many told me that this ministry is a ball of fire and that I was jumping into it. I have also heard many bad things about Biman,” he told reporters.
“I have nine months. During this period, I will do all that I can to dispel Biman’s ignominy even if it costs me my blood, my life,” the new minister said. “I will make Biman profitable.”
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for appointing him as a minister. “I never thought that I would serve as a minister … I will try my best not to disappoint her,” Shajahan said.
“Turning Biman into a profitable institution will be my main challenge,” the new minister said, seeking everyone’s assistance to fulfil the target.
