Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has announced the names of 24 journalists as winners of their 2016 media awards.
Housing and Public Works Minister, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, handed over the awards at a ceremony held at The Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) in the capital on Thursday.
Of a total of 24 winners, 14 are photographers, five are from print, and five are from electronic media.
Journalists who won the first prize in the print and electronic categories were awarded a crest and Tk 2 lakh in cash, while the second and third prize winners received Tk 1,75,000.
Senior vice-president of REHAB and press and media committee chairman, Nurun Nabi Chowdhury (Shaon), highlighted various issues and drew attention to potential problems in the housing sector.
REHAB president Alamgir Shamsul Alamin presided over the function while its first vice president, Liaquat Ali Bhuiyan, gave the welcome speech. Among others, REHAB director and press and media standing committee co-chair-2, Kamal Mahmud, was present at the function.
Alamgir Shamsul Alamin said, “Journalists play an important role in society. Through their writings they reveal unknown information and enlighten the society.”
The print media journalists awarded are: staff reporters Sanullah Kabir of daily Prothom Alo, Miraj Shams of Daily Shamokal, M.M. Masud of Manabzamin, Golam Rabbani of Daily Amader Shomoy, and Mariam Sejuti of Bhorer Kagoj. Electronic media winners are: Hiryun Mira of Maasranga TV, Jahidul Islam of Ekattorer TV, Tanzila Nijhum of Mohana TV, Sanveer Rupol of Shomoy TV, and senior staff reporter Hasanul Shaon of NTV.
