Income tax fair fetches over Tk1,500cr in five days

The total receipt so far saw a 5.76% rise compared to the amount of over Tk1,473 crore bagged on the same day a year earlier

This year’s income tax fair logged Tk15,580,942,527 till Saturday, the fifth day of the annual event being held across the country.

The total receipt so far saw a 5.76% rise compared to the amount of over Tk1,473 crore bagged on the same day a year earlier.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) received around Tk290.53 crore on Saturday from 81,599 taxpayers, posting a year-on-year jump of 6.86% in tax returns.   

Against 48,064 taxpayers a year ago, the fair on its fifth day saw a handsome 69.77% rise of their numbers. 

As many as 248,917 people availed tax filing services at the fair on Saturday, whereas the figure was 180,101 on the same day in 2017.

There was a hefty 230.20% upsurge in the issuance of e-TaxpayerIdentification Numbers (e-TIN) as 5,488 people availed it on Saturday, up from last year’s 1,622 e-TINs on the same day.

In the first five days of the fair, 24,903 e-TINs were issued, which is 337.20% more than that recorded on as many days in the last income tax fair.  

Moreover, the NBR yesterday inaugurated an audiovisual tax learning programme in order to help taxpayers, especially the new ones.  

The fair began across the country on Tuesday, aiming to increase the number of taxpayers and augmenting tax income to increase the country’s tax-GDP ratio.

Aiming at facilitating tax-related transactions and help visitors, 44 e-TIN registration booths, two e-payment booths, 72 return filing booths, 50 help desks, and two emergency health booths have been set up on the fair premises in Dhaka.

The fair, scheduled to end on Monday, is underway in all divisional headquarters. It will also take place for four days in 56 districts, two days in 32 upazilas, and one day in 70 upazilas.
