Bangladesh-German Development Cooperation Negotiations 2018 held

Both the delegations had an open and fruitful exchange of views on ongoing projects and programs in the field of Financial and Technical Cooperation (FC and TC) as well as on future development cooperation

Bilateral negotiations on development and cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, has been held.

The program took place in Dhaka on Monday.

Ministry of Finance Europe Wing Economic Relations Division Additional Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman represented the Bangladesh Government while Dr Wolfram Klein, head of South Asia Division in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development led the German delegation.

Mahmuda Begum, secretary-in-Charge, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance gave the welcome speech.

German Ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter Fahrenholtz, made the opening remarks. 

Both the delegations had an open and fruitful exchange of views on ongoing projects and programs in the field of Financial and Technical Cooperation (FC and TC) as well as on future development cooperation.

As a result of the negotiations, commitments for the following sectors of Bangladesh-German mutual Cooperation were made worth €285.3 million. The overall amount since 1972 has reached €3 billion.

The commitments are renewable energy and energy efficiency,  rule of law and good governance and adaptation to climate change in urban areas.

In addition, support to the management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forests was also agreed.

During the negotiations, Germany announced further assistance in the amount of €29m to Rohingya and host communities.
