Workers of different factories under Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) demonstrated in front of their respective factories at Palash industrial area of Ghorashal yesterday, over multiple demands including clearing unpaid wages, implementation of wage commission and others.
They ceased production from 10am to 11am and surrounded the administration building to voice their demands, under the banner of Bangladesh Jute Mills Sramik League, led by Delwar Hossain, senior vice president of BJMC’s collective bargaining agents (CBAs).
Leaders said the government must concede to their nine demands, which included unpaid wages of workers, clearing their gratuity payments, form a wage commission which was pledged by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
If the government did not accept their demands, they warned of tough movement, including nonstop strikes and work abstention.
