Speakers: Women entrepreneurs can try pearl farming

The workshop was organized by BSRI

Women can try their hands in pearl farming as it requires minimal investment, according to Chief Scientific Officer of Bagerhat Shrimp Research Institute (BSRI) Dr Khan Kamal Uddin.

Speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled “Economic Significance of Baby Oysters and Snails and its Production Procedures” at BSRI yesterday, he said the abundance of rivers, lakes, canals and marshes, it is ideal to cultivate pearls, which does not affect the aquaculture in the vicinity.

“Interested women entrepreneurs can try out pearl farming, as it may also lead them to be self-sufficient and empower them as well,” Kamal added.

The workshop was organized by BSRI, as part of their “Bangladesh Oyster and Snail Preservation, Breeding and Farming Project”. 

Deputy Director of BSRI Shamsunnahar, senior scientific officers Md Amirul Islam, Md Motiur Rahman and other officials were also present.

Various farmers and relevant stakeholders also attended the workshop.
