Export-import through Benapole land port halted

Export-import activities between Bangladesh and India through the Benapole land port remained suspended since yesterday morning.

Katrik Chakraborty, general secretary of Petrapol Port Staff Welfare Association, said India was celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This is why trade activities between the neighbours had remained suspended.

Uttam Chakma, assistant commissioner of Benapole Customs, said activities inside the Benapole port area was normal but many raw materials of garments and factories were stranded at Petrapole due to the holiday in India.

Hili port to remain closed for 8 days

The import and export activities will remain suspended for eight days from Friday next through Hili Land Port (HLP) in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur on occasion of the Durga Puja festivity.

“All sorts of import-export activities would remain suspended through the land port from October 4 to October 11 next,” said President of the Customs, Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association (CC and FAA) of the port Kamal Hossain Raz yesterday.

The imports, exports, customs clearance, loading and unloading of goods will resume through the land port from October 12.

Officer-in-Charge of the Immigration Check Post (ICP) at the port Md Rafiqul Islam said movement of passport-visa holder citizens would remain normal through the ICP during the vacation despite closure of import and export activities.
