World Standards Day on Wednesday

On the eve of the day, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages

The 51st ‘World Standards Day’ will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world on Wednesday with the motto 'Protecting the planet with standards'.

On the eve of the day, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said the government has taken various steps for industrialization and rapid economic growth in addition to ensuring the production and provision of quality products for industrialization in the country.

“As a result, Bangladesh is now being considered as a role model for development in the world. International standards are one of the tools to protect everyone in the world,” he added.

Considering the significance of World Standards Day, he hoped that domestic entrepreneurs will be more focused on following and implementing international standards.

He said World Standards Day will play an important role in creating awareness among industrial entrepreneurs, sellers and consumers in the development and implementation of quality as well as exchange of specialized experience between different countries.

“It is essential to follow the international standards in all fields, including production, marketing and service delivery. As the national standards organisation, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) has an important role in providing the desired services to the people through formulation and development the standard of products and services,” he added.

He said BSTI has to play more efficient, accountable and responsible role in fulfilling the confidence of the people.

He hoped that as a national standards body, BSTI will be able to earn the trust of the people by formulating and developing product standards.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said that extensive industrialization around the world for the modern civilization has had positive results as well as negative impacts on the environment and public life.

She hoped that BSTI will continue to work for the formulation and development of national standards in building an industrialized country, gaining the confidence of the people in the quality of various products and providing quality services to all.

Marking the day, BSTI has drawn up comprehensive programmes, including discussions at its head office, regional offices, and special programmes at Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Radio.

A discussion is scheduled to held on the day at BSTI head office at Tejgaon in the city where Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun is expected to be present as the chief guest while State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder and President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Sheikh Fazle Fahim will join it as special guests.
