Lack of manpower is hindering that momentum, as vacancies in the ICT Division and other state agencies are proving to be stumbling blocks for the government

The country's ICT sector has been slowly gaining momentum in recent times, with the introduction of digitalisation in people's lives.

However, lack of manpower is hindering that momentum, as vacancies in the ICT Division and other state agencies are proving to be stumbling blocks for the government, namely 28 projects.

ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak has ordered to expedite the recruitment process for the said vacancies, which will help to propel the government's vision of a Digital Bangladesh.

He gave the instructions to the project managers at the annual development programme (ADP) implementation review meeting for February of fiscal 2020-21 virtually yesterday.

As there are several agencies under the ICT Division, the number of vacancies is significant and most of them will be filled soon, said an ICT department official.

The vacancies need to be filled as soon as possible as project implementation must not be delayed in any way, Palak told the officials at the meeting.

Earlier during the meeting, agency heads and project managers presented their respective implementation plans and the latest progress of their projects.

Achievements of monthly and realistic financial targets, decisions taken and challenges were also discussed at the meeting.

It was also revealed during the meeting that network monitoring system integration connectivity has been completed in 2,500 out of 2,600 unions of the country, as part of the government's Info Sarker-3 project.

The state minister emphasised on ensuring broadband internet connectivity in all the unions of the country.

The progress of ICT projects is 52.83 per cent and the financial progress is Tk 367.19 crore as of February 2021.

In fiscal 2020-21, the allocation for a total of 28 projects including technology under the ICT department is Tk 1,414.79 crore in ADP and Tk 695.10 crore in revised annual development programme, according to the ICT department.
