BB will consider applications from authorised dealer banks on behalf of their customers
Local satellite channel distributors can remit subscription fees abroad from now on for receiving access to satellite channels through the Direct to Home (DTH) technology.
“To facilitate the payment of receiving satellite channels through DTH technology, it has now been decided that the Bangladesh Bank will also consider applications from authorised dealer banks on behalf of their customers for remitting subscription fees abroad,” said a central bank notice on Tuesday.
The central bank also asked the authorised dealer banks to forward their customers’ applications on a case-to-case basis to the foreign exchange operation department of the central bank.
In this case, statements from the clients regarding the establishment of DTH technology and the capacity to distribute services to local customers will be needed, as per the BB notice.
A copy of a permission letter from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), one from the Ministry of Information for providing the services, and another to remit the fees to the foreign counterparts will be required.
Before executing remittance requests, authorised dealer banks shall obtain a business projection of the following five years along with last year’s audited financial report of the DTH service provider.
AKASH is the first-ever DTH service launched in Bangladesh by BEXIMCO.
