New FBCCI body pledges to work for private sector uplift

The FBCCI president said that they have taken over the charge of the country’s apex trade body at a time when the global economies are being devastated due to the Covid-19 pandemic

The new president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Jashim Uddin on Thursday pledged to continue work for private sector development alongside facing the challenges of the businesses due to LDC graduation.

“The country’s apex trade body will continue to work for further flourishing the private sector alongside tackling the challenges of the businesses due to LDC graduation,” he said.

Jashim made the remarks while addressing a press conference organized by the new FBCCI committee for the 2021-22 term held at its building in the city’s Motijheel area.

“We want to work for private sector development in our next two-year term by standing beside the businesses. Our first target is to ensure support from the stimulus packages for the micro entrepreneurs so that they can get loan facilities,” he added.

Jashim said they would discuss the matter with the central bank and other commercial banks in this regard.

The FBCCI president said that they have taken over the charge of the country’s apex trade body at a time when the global economies are being devastated due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Bangladesh is not also out of the purview of that. But the new FBCCI board with experienced and skilled businesses will be able to do something good for the country’s economy,” he said.

Thanks to timely and farsighted steps taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jashim said, Bangladesh is now in a much better position compared to the neighbouring countries in tackling the pandemic.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the premier and the government for rolling out stimulus packages and other measures to keep operational the wheels of the economy.

The FBCCI president also voiced his strong resolve to build an inclusive and effective FBCCI which will truly represent businessmen in its march towards building a developing nation.
