The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) hit a record high on Sunday, the first session after Eid vacation, as a buying binge added strength to the equity indices despite virus worries.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 19.17 points or 0.29% to settle at 6,424 — the highest since its inception in 2013.
The blue-chip index DS30, a group of 30 prominent companies, also rose 14.10 points to settle at an all-time high at 2,336 — also the highest since its inception on January 27, 2013.

The DSE Shariah Index also advanced 6.08 points to close at 1,393.

A total of 214,552 trades were executed during the trading session with a trading volume of 453.69 million securities.
The market capitalization of the DSE stood at Tk535,000 crore on Sunday, down from the all-time high of Tk535,200 crore of the previous session.
Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 375 issues traded, 237 declined, 116 advanced, and 22 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Saif Powertec topped the turnover list with shares worth Tk68.2 crore changing hands, followed by British American Tobacco with Tk51 crore, Beximco with Tk39.3 crore, and BD Finance with Tk32.5 crore and Fu-Wang Ceramic with Tk30.9 crore.

Fu-Wang Ceramic was the best performer of the day, posting a gain of 9.95% while Familytex (BD) was the worst loser, losing 9.43% after an abnormal hike in the recent weeks.
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange, also ended higher with its CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) gaining 103 points to settle at 18,673 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) advancing 69 points to finish at 11,216.
Here too, the losers beat gainers, as 178 issues closed lower, 105 higher and 22 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city bourse traded 16.55 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Tk40.8 crore.
