"The banknotes are getting damaged and not staying fit as they should, and consumers are also suffering," Bangladesh Bank said in a circular
The Bangladesh Bank has asked everyone to refrain from writing, using seals or staples on banknotes.
The central bank issued a notice in this regard on Tuesday.
“There are laws on labelling packages of banknotes with the name of the bank branch, seal, signature of the individual who made the count and date, after counting them. But it has come to Bangladesh Bank’s notice that the law is being breached and those labels are ending up directly on the banknotes,” the notice reads.
“As a result, the banknotes are getting damaged and not staying fit as they should, and consumers are also suffering. Overall, it is wasting the state’s money.”
The central bank further said that writing on banknotes, using seals or stapling them goes against its implementation of the Clean Note policy.
Bangladesh Bank asked all banks to use separate labels or flyleaves with the name of the bank branch, seal, and signature of the individual who made the count and date after counting them.
It further asked to follow all regulations and instructions while depositing currency notes or banknotes to the central bank.
