Operations at the port will resume on October 17 after remaining suspended for 6 days
Export-import activities at Hili Land Port (HLP) in Dinajpur will remain suspended for six days starting October 11 on the occasion of Durga Puja.
Export-import activities at the land port will remain suspended till October 17, Customs, Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association of HLP Abdur Rahman Litan told BSS on Friday.
He said that export-import was halted after Indian Exporters' and Customs Clearing Agents' Association of Hilli Port General Secretary Dhiraj Adhikari wrote to Bangladesh customs authorities.
All activities including customs clearance, loading and unloading of goods will resume from October 17, he added.
Hindu devotees will start celebrating the Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindus from October 11.
On October 6, Hindus across Bangladesh celebrated Mahalaya, the auspicious occasion that heralds the advent of Goddess Durga.
Considered as a ceremonial invocation of Goddess Durga, Mahalaya is observed a week prior to Durga Puja.
Hindus believe the earth prepares itself and welcomes the coming of the Goddess and her children, through the celebrations.
