The High Court has ordered to halt the recruitment test of senior officer, officer (general) and officer (cash) for the state-owned Sonali, Rupali and Janata banks by an integrated circular.
The preliminary test of the combined circular was scheduled to be held on January 12.
The High Court bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan came up with the order after hearing a petition filed by 28 job seekers on Sunday.
Advocate Rashedul Haque Khokan, Advocate Tanjim Al Islam, and Advocate Mirza Sultan Al Reza argued for the petitioners while Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju represented the state during the hearing .
Advocate Rashedul Haque Khokon said: “Sonali, Rupali and Janata banks had published separate circulars for different positions in 2016 but did not arrange any recruitment test. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Bank issued an integrated circular for eight state-owned banks, including the three banks in question, in 2017.”
“Therefore, 28 examinees who applied for the circulars published in 2016 filed a writ challenging the legitimacy of 2017 circular issued by Bangladesh Bank. The judges issued the rule today (Sunday) after hearing the writ petition,” he added.
The court also issued a rule asking the central bank why the 2017 circular should not be declared illegal.
