Clients could not access Dutch Bangla ATMs (automated teller machines) for two hours in the several area of Dhaka city on Sunday because of problem in network.

They complained that they could not draw cash from ATMs of the bank for two hours (from 1:30pm to 3:30pm).

Anwar Hossain, a private job holder, was unable to withdraw money from Dutch-Bangla Bank ATM booth at Maniknagar. Like him, clients in the different areas faced trouble owing to the network problem.

A security guard of Dutch-Bangla Bank ATM booth (Gopibagh) said that there were some problems in withdrawing money due to network trouble and claimed that it was now okay.

Banks and ATM Booths are facing huge rush of clients withdrawing cash ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. Over the last three days, banks in the capital were packed with clients withdrawing money and remittances.

Almost every day last week, at least Tk400 crore was withdrawn from Dutch-Bangla Bank’s ATM booths, said an official of the bank.

Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Dutch-Bangla Bank  Managing Director Abul Kashem Md Shirin said that banking transaction through their ATM booths was okay.

"We take extra care during Eid so that nobody faced problem withdrawing money. Due to the huge pressure of withdrawal, there may be occasional network problems," he said.

On Saturday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Detective Police) arrested six foreign nationals on charge of withdrawing Tk3 lakh by a fake card from the Dutch Bangla Bank ATM booth (Khilgaon).

"There is no link of this fraud work to the network problem," said Abul Kashem Md Shirin.
